About

“Always read something that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.”  ~P.J. O’Rourk.

I love to read. Reading is about learning. Learning is about growing. Growing is about making the most of the life you’ve been given to impact the most amount of people possible.

I don’t read to become arrogant. I don’t read to simply grow for my own benefit. I read to grow and I grow to maximize my potential to impact people for Jesus.

Most of the posts will be summaries I write because I want to and write them anyways.

However and I must be very clear, these summaries SHOULD NEVER replace ACTUALLY READING THE BOOK! I understand, there are times that we just don’t have enough time to read all the books we want to. Like John Piper says, we must FIGHT for the time to DRINK IN GREAT BOOKS.

This blog is for posting those “highlights” of great books. However, with each of them, I highly recommend you drink the whole thing. Let the summary be like a teaser and only occasionally, like a replacement for time you just can’t find.

Books are about growth and transformation:

I think people should desire to be challenged, to learn from those who know more, and to take every second possible captive to growth. We get one chance to live. We should maximize it by reading and learning.

However, I learned long ago that reading alone does not equal transformation.

First, if you believe that your growth, your reading, and your achievement is greater than the power of God, you’ll fail.

Second, if you believe that reading great books is more important than reading the Great Book (The Bible), you’ll fail.

Third, if you believe that knowledge without action is sufficient, you’ll fail. If you aren’t exercising the knowledge and putting it into practice, what good is it?

Fourth, if you don’t have a purpose behind reading, you’ll fail. For instance, simply reading for self-indulgence.

Fifth, if you don’t have a great way to retain information, you’ll fail.

These are just a few of the ways that you can fail to be transformed by what you read.

The purpose of this blog is to post summary notes of incredible books. It’s never an attempt to replace actually reading them. Furthermore, there is rarely a structure of summaries. It is more like a highlight real of great thoughts, quotes, and important notes.

In the meantime, enjoy the hard work that I put in reading!!! Just kidding!!!

God loves you! Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life!!!

Peace,

John
